GEORGETOWN CENTRAL DEFENDER ALEXA ST. MARTIN WEEK-9 PRIMETIME PLAYER
Hoyas junior joined by 15 others in comprising expanded CS360 Primetime Performers Honor Roll for Oct 8-14.

Georgetown junior central defender Alexa St. Martin (Westford, Mass.) – a key force behind the BIG EAST shutout of conference favorite Notre Dame – has been honored for the top honor among the week-9 CS360 Primetime Performers of the Week for Division I women's soccer, as selected by CollegeSoccer360.com. St. Martin is the CS360 National Primetime Player of the Week for Oct. 8-14 and is joined by 15 others in forming the Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll for the ninth week of the 2012 season (the number of total honorees is higher than in past weeks, due to conference races nearing their end).

St. Martin (pictured) combined with the other members of the Hoyas back line –  senior Claire Magliola, junior Mary Kroening and freshman Neela Mohan – in limiting the young but potent Notre Dame attack to three shots on goal and seven total shots in the 2-0 Georgetown win. Two days later, she helped the Hoyas avert a letdown by shutting down visiting DePaul until the GU offense finally scored in overtime for a 1-0 win. Georgetown held DePaul without a shot until the overtime period (that held up as the only shot for the Blue Demons, who also managed only one corner kick).

St. Martin assumed a greater role during the past week, assigned to mark the opponent's top scorers due to the injury absence of fellow junior defender Emily Menges. In addition to playing all 195 minutes spanning the wins over Notre Dame and DePaul, St. Martin has appeared in 16 of 17 games this season (starting 15). The versatile Martin had made only a handful of starts during the previous two seasons before assuming an expanded role in 2012.

Georgetown (14-1-0-1, 8-0-1 BE) has clinched at least a share of the National Division regular-season title and is riding a nine-game unbeaten streak. This season will mark the first time that the Hoyas women's soccer team has won any sort of BIG EAST title.

St. Martin has been a central factor for a Georgetown defense that leads the BIG EAST in season goals-against average (0.57), with a school-record 12 shutouts and only one goal allowed in nine conference games.

Headshots of all 16 honorees are included in the right-sidebar, with action photos below (player info. to be added later).

... Selection for the Division I women's CS360 weekly awards is based on any/all of the following "primetime" criteria (i.e. not solely based on raw stats):

• Performed at a high level in a game that is key to the team's postseason qualification (or conference title), typically in a game involving a top-50 team from the CS360 Composite National Rankings (or in a game involving a conference favorite/leader from a league not represented in the CS360 top-50).

• In general, preference is given based on the quality of the opponent, contribution to team success and other situational factors involved in the player's accomplishments.

• Exhibited strong leadership and/or involved in clutch performances, such as gamewinning goals, noteworthy comebacks, late scores, momentum-shifting play, all-around performance, team spirit, etc.

• Overcame adversity or extreme circumstances (for the team and/or individual).

• Bonus consideration is given for key performances away from team's home field and/or against a traditional rival.
