CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performers of the Week #2  (Aug. 23-29)

Long Beach State's Nadia Link named Primetime Player of the Week, after playing key role in three noteworthy wins.

Long Beach State sophomore forward Nadia Link (Rowland Heights, Calif.) leads the way on the second group of Primetime Performers for the 2010 Division I women's soccer season, as presented by CollegeSoccer360.com.

Link – the CS360 Primetime Player of the Week – is joined by 15 other players from around the country, in comprising the week-2 group of honorees for the CS360 Primetime Performers of the Week (full list below). During Long Beach's three games during the week of Aug. 23-29, Link scored in the 89th minute for a 1-0 win at Fresno State, scored the first goal in a 2-1 win over Washington State (at the Texas A&M Invitational) and recorded both of the LBSU goals to knock off Virginia Tech (also at A&M). Washington State (#29) and Virginia Tech (#16) both were listed last week in the CS360 Composite National Rankings, with Long Beach vaulting into the various national rankings after the impressive 3-0 week.

Selection is based on any/all of the following "primetime" criteria (i.e. not solely based on raw stats):

• Must have been playing in a game involving a top-50 team from the CS360 Composite National Rankings (or a preseason conference favorite), or performed at a high level in a game that is key to the team's postseason qualification.

• Involved in clutch performances, such as gamewinning goals, noteworthy comebacks, late scores, team leadership, etc.

• Overcame adversity or extreme circumstances (for the team and/or individual).

• Bonus consideration is given for key performances away from team's home field.

• In general, preference is given based on the quality of the opponent and situational factors involved in the player's accomplishments.

The 16 selections include six forwards, four midfielders, five defenders and the goalkeeper Cornell. They feature the 5th-year senior O'Brien, five seniors, five juniors, three sophomores and two freshmen. Four of the players – Cornell, Hein, Link and Press – are California natives, with the other 12 hailing from 11 different home states/provinces/foreign countries: two from Missouri, plus one each from Alberta, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Utah and Virginia.

KELLI CORNELL (left)

Talented netminder who stopped all 12 shots she faced, as Lobos pulled off 1-0 overtime win at #24 Marquette (nine of her saves came in a frenetic first half) ... has posted 16 shutouts in 24 career starts for UNM ... has two years of eligibility remaining after the 2010 season (did not play as a freshman, in '08) ... totaled 15 saves as MVP of the Milwaukee Cup ... helped tie #35 Milwaukee (1-1), which was serving as tournament co-host at Marquette ... compiled a 0.69 goals-against average (13 shutouts) during the 2009 season.

LAURA GRANBERG (left)

(Ohio State ... So.; F ... Edmonton, Alberta)

Scored tying goal and added gamewinning score, as Buckeyes posted comeback win in regional battle with #31 West Virginia (3-1) ... also helped OSU win 2-0 at Pittsburgh earlier in the week ... volleyed in a cross from Tiffany Cameron to tie WVU game in the 52nd minute ... scored 61 seconds later for the go-ahead goal, cashing in a feed from Lauren Steuer ... tied for team lead in goals (6) as a freshman ... member of Canada's Youth National Team.

LAUREN HEIN (left)

(UNC Greensboro... So.; F ... Torrance, CA)

Scored first goal and assisted on the eventual gamewinner, as Spartans posted upset win at #10 Wake Forest ... her header goal opened the scoring at Wake in the 11th minute (off pass from Cat Barkenow, who received corner-kick service from Kory Spotts) ... supplied free-kick assist 18 minutes later, with Jenn Partenheimer scoring on a volley for 2-0 lead ... also helped beat Utah 1-0 (at Georgia Invitational), giving UNCG the first 3-0-0 start in the program's history ... named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team in 2009 (5G-4A).

NADIA LINK (CS360 Primetime Player of the Week)

(Long Beach St...So.; F...Rowland Hts., CA)

Helped vault 49ers into the national rankings, after scoring four goals during 3-0 week ... scored at the 88:59 mark for dramatic 1-0 win at Fresno State (knocked in Jazz Sttrozier's deflected shot, after corner-kick service from Shawna Gordon) ... had big showing at the Texas A&M Invitational ... opened the scoring in 2-1 win over #29 Washington State, converting from the center of the 6-yard box in the 22nd minute (via pass sequence from Gordon and Marysol Rosas) ... scored both goals in another 2-1 win, over #16 Virginia Tech ... cashed in a quick-kick service from Karina Camacho, scoring from the center of the box for 34th-minute lead on Hokies ... scored again for 2-0 lead in the 60th minute (from close range, with assists from Gordon and Jenny Soza) ... served primarily as a reserve in 2009 (17 GP, six starts, no goals).

JESSICA LUCINSKI (left)

(Boston Univ. ... Jr.; M ... Bedford, NH)

Rose to the challenge vs. #32 Washington, scoring twice as Terriers posted stunning 3-0 win ... ended scoreless game in the 40th minute, on a strong strike from the right side into the upper-left corner ... her corner kick in 67th minute led to Kyle Strom's flick pass and Jessica Morrow's header goal (for 3-0 final) ... also helped post 3-0 win over American ... earned first team All-America East Conference honors in 2009, after totaling 20 points (6G-8A).

ALYSSA MAUTZ

(Texas A&M...Sr.; M...O'Fallon, MO)

Battle-tested veteran who scored four times in pair of wins over top opponents (5-3 vs. #16 Virginia Tech; 1-0 vs. #29 Washington St.) ... recorded second career hat trick in high-scoring game vs. Hokies ... flashed high-energy game in win over VT, first one-touching free kick from Bri Young for 3-1 lead ('36) ... scored again early in second half (49') for 4-2 lead, on 22-yard shot that bent into upper far-corner (Whitney Hooper had collected a Merrit Mathias rebounded shot and passed to Mautz) ... completed hat trick by scoring 40 seconds after VT's third goal, knocking in Hooper's deflected shot ... scored game's only goal vs. WSU (63'), one-touching a delicate endline pass from Rachel Shipley at the far-right post (Shipley had received the ball from Raven Tatum, on the left flank).

ASHLEY O'BRIEN

(San Francisco..5th-Yr.-Sr.; D..Broad Brook, CT)

Veteran backliner and team captain whose strong play helped Dons post 2-1 win over North Florida and big 4-1 victory over Big West Conference favorite UC Santa Barbara ... scored nine seconds before halftime for 2-0 lead and eventual gamewining goal vs. UNF, sending 20-yard free kick into far-left corner of the net ... helped limit the Ospreys to three shots on goal and a pair of corner kicks ... added a free-kick assist two days later vs. UCSB, setting up a Hanna Haanes header goal for 2-0 lead (39') ... capped the 4-1 win in 83rd minute, taking pass from Molly Hall and sending 10-yard shot into left side of net .. joined USF program in 2009, as a transfer from UConn.

KAITLIN O'CONNOR (left)

(William & Mary ... Sr.; D ... Chantilly, VA)

Experienced defender who helped Tribe post pair of impressive results at Penn State tournament, with scoreless tie vs. #43 UConn and 2-1 win over the #14 host team ... pair of W&M defense that limited UConn to 5 shots on goal and 4 corner kicks over the 110 minutes ... also helped hold back Penn State (5 SOG) ... broke 1-1 tie vs. Nittany Lions with 74th-minute goal, driving a 40-yard free kick that tucked under the crossbar for final 2-1 score ... a four-year starter who earned third team all-Colonial Athletic Association honors in 2008 and '09.

KAELIA OHAI (left)

(North Carolina... Fr.; F ... Draper, UT)

Newcomer who helped top-ranked Tar Heels overcome depleted lineup, registering pair of goals and an assist in home tournament action vs. #2 Stanford (2-2) and defending Big 12 Conference champ Missouri (6-1) ... stepped in as starter, replacing injured Emalle Pfankuch ... played huge role in NCAA title-game rematch vs. Stanford ... tied that game in the 51st minute, running onto the ball and scoring inside the right post (sequence included Rachel Wood's free kick, a flick from Courtney Jones and redirection by Alyssa Rich) ... assisted on goal that forged final 2-2 score (71'), sending pass from left side to Katie Klimczak (whose touch set up a blast from Amber Brooks that tucked inside the right post) ... opened the scoring vs. Missouri in 32nd minute, converting a thru-ball from Jones on another shot inside the right post.

KELLI PAWELKO (left)

Helped Bearcats enter national rankings, following 0-0 tie vs. Northwestern and 1-0 win over #19 Wisconsin ... part of Cincinnati backline that limited the host Badgers to three shots on goal in upset win ... picked a perfect time for the first goal of her collegiate career, driving a free kick over the Wisconsin 'keeper in the 58th minute ... helped Cincinnati remain unbeaten through four games (3-0-1) for the first time since 1996 ... second-year starter for the Bearcats.

CHRISTEN PRESS (Stanford ... Sr.; F ... Palosa Verdes Estates, CA)

Elite offensive force who scored pair of huge goals during action at North Carolina tournament (2-2 vs. #1 UNC and 2-1 vs. #18 Duke) ... showed her versatile scoring ability on first goal of NCAA title-game rematch vs. UNC, drilling a leftfooted shot that curved inside the far-left post (32') ... that goal provided Stanford's first lead in its all-time series vs. the Tar Heels (spanning 11 games) ... converted thru-ball from Teresa Noyola two days later (74'), allowing Cardinal to complete comeback win vs. Duke ... on the verge of reaching 50 career goals (48) and needs seven more assists (33) to become member of rare 40G-40A club.

Newcomer who made big impact for Wildcats in tournament action at the University of Wisconsin, helping post a scoreless tie vs. fellow upstart Cincinnati before assisting on goal in huge upset of #3 UCLA (1-0) ... key member of midfield battle that saw Northwestern limit Cincinnati to 4 shots on goal and a pair of corner kicks before allowing only 4 shots on goal form the potent UCLA offense ... helped push her team's attack, particularly in the 54th minute when she drove to the left endline and delivered near-post pass to Kate Allen for game's only goal ... totaled 61 goals and 46 assists in her prep career, at Edina HS.

LIZZY SIMONIN (left)

(Memphis ... Jr./D ... Lee's Summit, MO)

Converted forward who has made impressive transition to the back line ... logged all 90 minutes at center back, in 1-0 win over #26 LSU ... repeatedly cleared attempted attacks by the visitors while helping limit LSU to a pair of shots on goal and two corner kicks in the top-30 matchup ... helped Memphis open 3-0-0 for the first time in the program's history ... earned Conference USA Freshman of the Year honors in 2008 (8 goals, 4 assists) but was slowed by an ankle injury during 2009 season.

JASMYNE SPENCER (left)

(Maryland ... Jr./F ... Bay Shore, NY)

Veteran frontrunner who earned MVP honors at the Lady Vol Classic, after totaling three goals in wins over #39 Tennessee (3-1) and Atlantic Sun Conference perennial power Kennesaw State (4-0) ... worked around a defender and struck a sharp shot to the far post for insurance goal in win over the homestanding Volunteers ... helped Terps compile a 16-3 edge in shots on goal during the two games ... played key role in domination of Kennesaw State, scoring twice in span of 3:05 for 2-0 lead midway through first half ... helped Maryland extend its non-conference winning streak to 15 games.

MEREDITH TOLLEY (action photo not currently available)

Veteran leader of Cardinals defensive unit that limited #15 South Carolina to 3 shots on goal, in 1-0 upset at the Gamecock Cup (SC's top scorer Kayla Grimsley put a shot on frame only once in the game) ... helped post another shutout two days later (2-0 vs. Bucknell), with the Bison managing only 5 shots on goal and a single corner kick ... started all 36 of Louisville's games during the previous two seasons (also made 15 starts as a freshman in 2007).

KEELIN WINTERS (left)

(Portland ... Sr./M ... Englewood, CO)

Delivered dramatic goal with 42 seconds left in regulation, as Pilots edged #21 Oklahoma State (1-0) ... fellow senior midfielder Sophie Schmidt assisted on that goal with a free-kick service from 35 yards out, sending the ball to the far post (where Winters scored on a header) and spoiling a strong game from 'keeper Adrianna Franch ... two days earlier, her thru-ball assisted on Danielle Foxhoven's goal (74') that capped 2-0 win over SMU.

The CS360 Primetime Performer awards made their debut at the start of the 2009 season and now have spanned 14 total weeks of competition. Stanford players have combined for 15 Primetime Performer honors spanning those 14 weeks, followed by: 11 from North Carolina; eight each from UCLA and Santa Clara; seven each from Florida State, Penn State, Virginia and Boston College; six each from San Diego, Portland and Texas A&M; five each from Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Oregon State, Wisconsin, Duke, Florida and Ohio State; four each from five teams (St. John's, California, Michigan State, Wake Forest and Maryland); and three each from 13 other teams (BYU, UCF, Pittsburgh, Indiana, Rutgers, USC, Missouri, West Virginia, Purdue, Arizona State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State and Milwaukee).
