CS360 WEEK-14 PRIMETIME PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UCF sophomore F/M Kristina Trujic
Central Florida super-sub Kristina ("Tina") Trujic (Venice, Fla.) – who scored in both of UCF's games during the past week, vs. nationally-seeded teams – headlines the most-recent Primetime Performers of the Week for Division I women's soccer, as selected by CollegeSoccer360.com for NCAA Tournament second-round and round-of-16 games during the weekend Nov 18-20, 2011 (seven total honorees, listed below). Trujic (pictured, at right), the week-14 CS360 Primetime Player of the Week, sparked unseeded UCF to a 3-2 win at Florida (a #2 national seed) and then helped the Knights advanced past 3rd-seed North Crolina (1-1; 5-4 PKs).
Trujic matched her season total with the pair of goals in Gainesville, despite playing limited minutes as team's top reserve (39 vs. Gators, 49 in OT battle with UNC). The clutch goalscorer gave her team the confidence of 2-1 halftime lead at Florida, after taking a feed from Bianca Joswiak, spinning to her left and blasting a 20-yard, arching far-post shot that sailed over 'keeper Taylor Burke and clanged off the upper-left post (that sequence was set up by Katie Jackson's dribble through defense on left side).
Two days later, Trujic again inspired her team's underdog spirit, taking leftside pass from Joswiak and rocketing shot past UNC leaping 'keeper Anne Sieloff into upper-right corner (72'). The sophomore sparkplug has played a key role in UCF reaching the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time since 1987 (third in program history).
Player info. on all seven week-14 Primetime Performer honorees is included below (as are action photos, with headshots located in right-sidebar). The seven honorees include three multi-positional players (a D/M, and two F/M), plus a pair of high-scoring forwards, one midfielder and a goalkeeper ... four seniors and three sophomore. The seven Primetime Performers hail from five different home states, led by three with California hometowns (plus two each from Florida, one from Germany and a New Jersey native).
The other six Primetime honorees include Penn State sophomore forward Maya Hayes (West Orange, N.J.), Long Beach State senior F/M Nicole Hubbard (Lakewood, Calif.), Stanford senior D/M/F Camille Levin (Newport Coast, Calif.), Oklahoma State 6th-year senior midfielder Annika Niemeier (Willingen-Ussein, Germany), San Diego senior goalkeeper Courtney Parsons (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Wake Forest sophomore forward Katie Stengel (Melbourne, Fla.).
... Selection for the Division I women's CS360 weekly awards is based on any/all of the following "primetime" criteria (i.e. not solely based on raw stats):
• Must have performed at a high level in a game that is key to the team's postseason advancement.
• In general, preference is given based on the quality of the opponent, contribution to team success and situational factors involved in the player's accomplishments.
• Exhibited strong leadership and/or involved in clutch performances, such as gamewinning goals, noteworthy comebacks, late scores, momentum-shifting play, all-around performance, team spirit, etc.
• Overcame adversity or extreme circumstances (for the team and/or individual).
• Bonus consideration is given for key performances away from team's home field and/or against a traditional rival, and for accomplishments that are significant nationally on a historic level.
