CHARLOTTE'S TYLER GIBSON HONORED AS CS360 PRIMTETIME PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Charlotte junior Tyler Gibson (Knoxville, Tenn.) – who assisted on a late tying goal at #3 seed Connecticut and converted his try to start the PK shootout – is the top honoree among the CS360 Primetime Performers of the Week for Division I men's soccer, as selected by CollegeSoccer360.com (five honorees, listed below). Gibson, pictured at right, is the CS360 Primetime Player of the Week and is joined by four others on the Primetime Performer Weekly Honor Roll for the Dec. 2-4 NCAA quartefinal round (player info. and photos below; headshots in right-sidebar).
... Selection for the CS360 weekly awards is based on any/all of the following "primetime" criteria (i.e. not solely based on raw stats):
• Performed at a high level in a game that is key to the team's postseason achievements.
• In general, preference is given based on the quality of the opponent, contribution to team success and situational factors involved in the player's accomplishments.
• Exhibited strong leadership and/or involved in clutch performances, such as gamewinning goals, noteworthy comebacks, late scores, momentum-shifting play, all-around performance, team spirit, etc.
• Overcame adversity or extreme circumstances (for the team and/or individual).
• Bonus consideration is given for key performances away from team's home field and/or against a traditional rival.

Gave the #7-seeded Bulls plenty of chances to win, in quarterfinal battle at #2 seed Creighton (game was pushed back a day due to snowstorm) ... shut out the Jays for 96-plus minutes, before tough-bounce deflection goal by All-American Ethan Finlay ... made three saves while defensing 10 corner kicks and dealing with 20 total shots from the home team ... logged every minute for the Bulls in 2011, after transfer from Michigan ... product of Kennedy Memorial High School and Emerald City FC club program.

.... Showcased his goalscoring ability in desparate situation, giving #2-seeded Creighton a 1-0 win over #7 seed South Florida in NCAA quarterfinal action (game was delayed a day due to snowstorm) ... sent his 14th goal of the season (43rd career) into left side of the net, after pouncing on Andrew Ribeiro's deflected shot ... product of Marshfield High School and the FC Milwaukee club program.

Assisted on late tying goal and then converted to open penalty-kick shootout, as unseeded 49ers advanced at #3 seed UConn (1-1; 4-2 PKs) ... connected with Aaron Weldon's long leftside free kick and deftly headed ball to Giuseppe Gentile, who sent his 10th goal of the season into lower-left corner (85'; three minutes after UConn had taken lead) ... calmly converted his PK, vs. talented 'keeeper Andre Brown ... engine of Charlotte midfield that finished with 11-9 shot edge (5-4 shots-on-goal; 6-4 corners ... product of Knoxville Central High School and the Knoxville FC club program.

MATT HEDGES (North Carolina ... D ... Sr. ... Carmel, IN/Butler ... #6)
.... Imposing center back with bonus ability to score in clutch situations, most recently in top-seeded UNC's 2-0 NCAA quarterfinal vs. St. Mary's ... opened scoring in that game early in second half (53'), sending home 8-yard header via Kirk Urso's corner kick ... four of his six goals this season have come over the past eight games ... helped limit upstart St. Mary's to four shots-on-goal and three corner kicks ... his strong play over the past few weeks has helped UNC return to the College Cup's final weekend for the fourth straight season ... product of Carmel High School and the Indy Burn club program.

Provided primary assist on goal in second overtime and played lead role in helping the game reach that point, as 13th-seeded UCLA won at #12 seed Louisville, 1-0, to avenge loss in the 2010 NCAA quarterfinals ... helped hold the Cardinals to three shots-on-goal and four corner kicks in 102 minutes of action – before crossing the ball to Reed Williams, who drilled a shot off the far-post and in for the dramatic win (102'), his 7th assist of season ... product of Dana Hills High School and the Irvine Strikers.
