NOTRE DAME'S CARI ROCCARO, WEST VIRGINIA'S KATE SCHWINDEL HONORED
AS CO-RECIPIENTS FOR CS360 PRIMETIME PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Clutch pair of goalscorers among 11 week-6 players on the Primetime Performers Honor Roll for Sept. 23-29.

We have a rarity in this week's edition of the CS360 Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll, as two players – versatile Notre Dame sophomore Cari Roccaro (East Islip, N.Y.) and West Virginia junior forward Kate Schwindel (Livingston, N.J.) – have been honored as co-recipients of the CS360 National Primetime Player of the Week for Sept. 23-29. Roccaro and Schwindel are joined by nine others in comprising the Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll for week-6 of the 2013 season.

The pair of honorees have several other things in common, hailing from neighboring northeastern states while each began her college career playing for programs that formerly were members of the BIG EAST Conference (Roccaro with ND in '12 and Schwindel with WVU a year earlier, in '11).

ROCARRO – who has played all over the field over the past two seasons (with both Notre Dame and the U.S. Under-20 National Team, where she currently serves as a starting center back) – was shifted up from midfield to forward last week, a move that paid huge dividends. Her big-game hat trick in the 5-0, Thursday-night win over visiting Maryland (CS360 #15) ranks as one of only three Notre Dame hat tricks vs. at top-25 opponent during the 15-year tenure of head coach Randy Waldrum. It also ranks as one of only a handful of hat tricks this season vs. a CS360 top-50 team – besting the three-goal effort turned in by the week-5 CS360 Primetime Player of the Week, Stanford's Courtney Verloo (who scored three vs. rival Sants Clara, then 16th in the cs360 top-50). Three days after the dominating win over Maryland, Roccaro scored once and assisted twice in Notre Dame's 3-0 win over fellow ACC newcomer Pittsburgh.

SCHWINDEL contributed a goal and assist in both of West Virginia's key Big 12 Conference victories over the weekend, as the Mountaineers came home with two huge road wins over fellow conference title contenders (2-1 at cs360 #39 Oklahoma State and then 4-3 at cs360 #17 Baylor). Schwindel had a goal and assist in each game. The win at Baylor halted the Bears' 31-game unbeaten streak (24-0-7), dating back to the middle of the 2012 season (UNC eliminated Baylor on penalty kicks in the '12 NCAAs, with that result formally counting as a tie). Baylor also saw its 17-game home winning streak come to an end. The Bears had allowed only one goal previously all season and had not allowed four goals in a game since 2009.

... Selection for the CS360 weekly awards is based on any/all of the following "primetime" criteria (i.e. not solely based on raw stats):

• Performed at a high level in a game that could be key to the team's postseason qualification, typically in a game involving a top-50 team from the CS360 Composite National Rankings (or in a game involving a conference favorite/leader from a league not represented in the CS360 top-50).
• In general, preference is given based on the quality of the opponent, contribution to team success and other situational factors involved in the player's accomplishments.
• Exhibited strong leadership and/or involved in clutch performances, such as gamewinning goals, noteworthy comebacks, late scores, momentum-shifting play, all-around performance/consistency, filling role/gameplan, team spirit, etc.
• Overcame adversity or extreme circumstances (for the team and/or individual).
• Bonus consideration is given for key performances away from team's home field and/or against a traditional rival.
• (Note that more players from conferences outside the CS360 top-50 will be honored later in the season, as league races heat up and individual results have greater bearing on postseason qualification).

Listing of the 11 honorees follows below – with action photos at bottom of the page (player info. capsules being added) and headshots in right sidebar.
