Congrats go out to 14 teams – Santa Clara, UCLA, Rutgers, Long Beach State, Western Carolina, Princeton, Boston University, Drake, Ohio State, Oregon, William & Mary, Navy, Washington and Arizona State – that were able to post a victory or tie today versus a higher-ranked team (based on the CS360 Composite National Rankings, or CNR). One of the more noteworthy results came from Long Beach State, which went on the road and posted a convincing 4-1 win at Missouri (the #25 team in the CNR).
Six of the teams (Santa Clara, Rutgers, Long Beach, Oregon, William & Mary and Navy) registered their positive result while playing on the opponent's field, while three others (UCLA, Western Carolina and Ohio State) did so on a neutral field. Three of the games involved a top-10 team that was beaten/tied by a unranked or lower-ranked team: #9 UCLA 3, #6 Florida 0 (@Illinois); Boston University 0, at #7 West Virginia 0; and @Arizona 1, #10 Virginia 1. There was a total of 30 games today involving teams ranked in at least one of the national top-25 polls – and nearly half of those games (14) saw the higher-ranked team lose or tie.
