West Virginia Wins at Penn State (2-1), in Top-20 Matchup

The West Virginia Mountaineers (1-0-1) registered a strong road victory this evening at Penn State, 2-1. WVU – listed 14th in the CS360 National Composite Rankings (NCR) – scored in the 12th minute and later scored the decisive goal early in the second half, after Penn State (9th in the NCR) had tied the game 12 minutes before intermission.

WVU's Megan Mischler finised a cross from Blake Miller scoring near-post to give the visitor's the early lead. Penn State (1-0-1) then tied the game roughly 20 minutes later, as veteran frontrunner Katie Schoepfer scored on a leftfooted shot into the right side of the net.

Miller netted the eventual gamewinner 13 minutes into the second half, cashing in a deflection by advancing down the middle of the field and uncorking a strong shot past All-America goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher.

Penn State (1-1-0) finished with a 14-12 shot margin, but WVU 'keeper Kerri Butler stopped five of the six PSU shots that were on frame (WVU had five shots on goal). Each team had only one corner kick in the top-20 showdown.
